I'm working with some world class cofounders and top labs on a new biotech based on novel immune organoid technology. The VC firm I invest/advise is backing our build. We are searching for the missing piece to the founding team: a computational biologist that can own/lead our data strategy. The unicorn candidate will have [1] an immunology, systems biology, or computational biology (or equivalent) advanced degree, [2] experience in drug discovery (ideally target ID) working with large multimodal datasets and applying ML models, and [3] an ambitious, entrepreneurial attitude to balance being a self-motivated individual contributor as well as company leader as we scale up our data team.
More on the company: We are building a platform-therapeutics biotech with a focus on novel target discovery in immunology. The discovery engine is built on a novel model system that faithfully recapitulates disease pathophysiology and heterogeneity. The foundational IP/tech has been spun-out of a top-tier research institute/tissue engineering lab that is best-in-class and ready to be scaled up into a commercial setting. The founding team is made up of hand-selected, world class scientists and engineers from top tissue engineering labs (including UPenn, Wyss, Columbia, Oxford) with industry experience at top tissue engineering startups (including bit.bio, insitro, Emulate, Valo, and more).
I'm hiring ML/Comp Bio interns (graduate or undergraduate). We’re looking for ML interns at Kerna Labs, an SF-based biotech company using foundation models of biology to build the assembly line of therapeutics.
Hiring for a 3-6 month paid internship to help us train and validate large scale ML models of biology. Possible research directions include:
- Establishing scaling laws for genetic sequence models
- Explore architecture alternatives to transformers, including SSSMs (Mamba) and the Hyena family of models
- Use model merging for efficient training of multi-view models of biology
Desired qualifications:
- Experience with designing, training, debugging and evaluating neural networks using modern frameworks such as Tensorflow or PyTorch.
- Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills.
- Programming experience in at least one of Python, C or C++

We build a platform for AI-assisted medical diagnosis and clinical decision-making.
