Terms of Attendance
Bits in Bio Event — Terms of Attendance
As a registered attendee or participant (“you”) at the Bits in Bio Event (the “Event”), you agree to these terms and conditions (collectively, the “Agreement”) with Bits in Bio, a California nonprofit public‑benefit corporation (“Bits in Bio,” “we,” or “us”), and agree that sponsors of the Event ("Sponsors") are intended third-party beneficiaries of these terms and conditions.
If you complete registration on behalf of another individual, you represent that you have notified that person of this Agreement and that they have accepted its terms.
1. Attendee Requirements
Admittance Your registration grants you entry to the Event only. All related expenses—travel, lodging, meals, etc.—are your sole responsibility. Bits in Bio bears no liability for such costs.
Use of Likeness By attending, you grant Bits in Bio, as well as Sponsors, the perpetual right to record, photograph, or otherwise capture your likeness or voice in any medium and to use, edit, and distribute that media worldwide without further approval or compensation.
Event Content We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to change any aspect of the Event—including its name, theme, program, speakers, moderators, venue, and schedule—at any time.
Identification A government‑issued photo ID may be required at check‑in.
2. Prohibited Conduct
Limitations on Use You may not sell, share, transfer, or trade your registration. Violations may result in cancellation without refund.
Community Expectations
You must behave responsibly and respectfully toward all participants, whether online or in person. In particular, do not:
- Demean, harass, abuse, threaten, or discriminate against anyone.
- Spam participants with unsolicited sales or marketing materials.
- Post or share obscene, hateful, or otherwise objectionable content.
- Use Bits in Bio or Sponsor materials or trademarks for commercial purposes without written consent.
- Publish Bits in Bio‑copyrighted or Sponsor-copyrighted content without permission.
Bits in Bio may, without refund, revoke credentials and/or ban future attendance for conduct that violates these expectations.
3. Privacy & Data Use
Bits in Bio is a nonprofit and relies on sponsors and community partners to make the Event possible. With your consent, we may share your basic contact details (e.g., name, email, organization) with select Sponsors so they can tell you about offerings relevant to life‑science innovators. You may opt out at any time via unsubscribe links.
Bits in Bio also collects and processes personal information to operate the Event, perform analytics, enrich records with publicly available data, and send post‑Event communications via trusted third‑party platforms (e.g., Slack, Luma, etc.). For details, see our Privacy Policy.
4. Intellectual Property
Nothing in this Agreement grants you any rights in Bits in Bio or Sponsor trademarks or other intellectual property. All such rights remain the exclusive property of Bits in Bio or its licensors, or Sponsors and their licensors, as applicable.
5. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
The Event and all related materials are provided “as is.” Bits in Bio and Sponsors makes no warranties—express or implied—including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or timeliness.
Except as required by law, neither Bits in Bio nor Sponsors are liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or relating to the Event or this Agreement.
You waive any claim that Bits in Bio or Sponsors owe you compensation, attribution, or any other obligation if they later build or commercialize technology that is identical or similar to anything discussed or presented at the Event.
Nothing in this Agreement limits your right—or anyone else’s right—to develop or market products or services based on anything discussed or presented at the Event.
6. Confidential Information
You agree not to disclose confidential information at the Event. All ideas, content, or materials you share are deemed non‑confidential and non‑proprietary, and Bits in Bio, Sponsors, and any participant may use them without restriction or obligation to you.
7. Miscellaneous
- Failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that or any other provision.
- Bits in Bio is not liable for delays or failures caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics).
- If any provision is held unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent needed, and the remainder of the Agreement will remain in full force and effect.
- This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict‑of‑law principles. Venue for any dispute lies exclusively in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
By registering for or attending the Bits in Bio Hackathon, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Agreement.
